The processing of U-Visa petitions (Form I-918) are delayed. According to USCIS, petitions submitted on or before December 10, 2012 have been processed whereas petitions submitted after December 10, 2012 have not been processed.

if you have medical issues, but do not have United States Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident family members, you may still be able to remain in the United States by making a request to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Will there be alternative forms of detention in the near future? Over the last five years, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has jailed a record number of immigrants. Some say these immigrants with no status have been jailed because of a little known mandate established by conservative lawmakers.

Last week, Democrats in the House proposed an immigration reform bill which will hopefully reignite the discussion on immigration reform. On another note, the First Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of Vladimir Perez Santana. Mr. Perez Santana had been a lawful permanent residence since the age of nine.

Congress is considering stricter laws to go after con artists who promise status in the United States. These con artists prey upon those who come to the United States with the hope of achieving the American Dream. Once immigration reform is accomplished, there may be even a greater number of con artists than before who will take advantage of those applying for a change in status.

Immigration Reform in Congress is not moving as fast as hoped for by many immigration reform activists. So, reform advocates are asking President Obama to use his executive authority to suspend deportation, grant administrative relief and expand the Deferred Action program. While the debate in congress continues, the executive branch continues to deport roughly 1,000 people per day.

On August 1, 2013, over forty immigration activist were arrested in Capitol Hill after blocking traffic. At the time, Congress was preparing to take a five week summer recess. Immigration Reform has not passed in the House. The activist included the United Farm Workers and AFL-CIO, among other immigration groups and unions.
